Wilkes comes with 25 years of coaching experience, his most recent role was at Northwich Victoria in the North West Counties League. He led them to fifth place, but left at the end of the season and his intention was to take a break and spend more time with his family. However, after a conversation with former Ramsbottom captain Phil Rose, he eventually agreed to take the role. The Rams finished bottom of the NPL West Division this season, and will play in the North West Counties League next season. He replaces Dave Chadwick as head coach, who was replaced following the club’s relegation.
