Centre-forward Jonny Nixon, who stands 6`3”, will bring a physical presence to Castle’s forward line. Originally with Port Vale and Chester’s academy, in 2020 he moved to the United States with Providence College where he played for Providence Friars until January 2023. Ryan Jennings has also put pen-to-paper for Newcastle. The 27-year-old midfielder is a well-travelled player who joined then-Northern Premier side Buxton in August 2019 and then switched to NPL Division One West outfit Widnes in January 2020 and then to league rivals Ramsbottom United in July 2022. He began his career with his home-town club Stockport County and joined Wigan Athletic in 2012. He went on loan at Accrington Stanley in March 2015 but failed to make an appearance through injury. He made his League debut in August 2015 in a Carling Cup defeat against Bury and three months later joined then-National League side Cheltenham Town on an initial one-month loan deal. In February 2016, he joined Cheltenham`s rivals Grimsby Town on loan until the end of the season and he was part of the team that eventually went on to beat Forest Green Rovers 3–1 in the 2016 National League Promotion Final at Wembley, seeing Grimsby promoted to League Two after a six-year absence from the Football League. In September 2016 he joined then-National League North side AFC Fylde, but by December he had joined league rivals Curzon Ashton. In the summer of 2017, he signed for Alfreton Town before switching to Nuneaton Borough the following November and onto Ashton United in February 2019.
