Glover Gets Busy at Hednesford
Defender Sam Griffiths has agreed a deal to return to Pitching In Northern Premier League Division One West club Hednesford Town as captain ahead of the 2023/24 season.

The 31-year-old is an experienced and versatile defender. Following a long injury, he departed the Pitmen in late 2021 to join Midland League Premier Division side Shifnal Town where he spent the next two years at the Shropshire outfit after returning to Hednesford in 2019. He originally joined the Pitmen in the summer of 2018 and went on to make 21 appearances, scoring twice before leaving for Halesowen Town. He has also played for Stafford Rangers, Braintree Town and Brentford after beginning his career at Wolverhampton Wanderers. Manager Danny Glover told https://www.hednesfordtownfc.com: “Sam is a player I know well and he is a fantastic defender with a lot of experience. I also need a leader in the dressing room who knows both sides of the game how to mix it up when it gets rough but also knows how to get it down and play, Sam fits this bill and I’m really pleased he has agreed to join us and take the armband.” Club legend Dan Crane (pictured) has also agreed to return to Keys Park as Glover’s player/assistant manager. The 39-year-old began his career at West Bromwich Albion in the youth academy before moving on to play for Burton Albion, Rushden & Diamonds, Cambridge United and Solihull Moors. He then made the move to Keys Park where he made his debut in 2010 at home to Chippenham Town in the Southern Premier Division. Crane then went on to make 337 appearances for the club and was part of 2013 play-off winning side with his heroics in the penalty shoot-out against AFC Fylde. In 2017 he exited the club and went on to play for Rushall Olympic, Bedworth United, Gresley Rovers, Boldmere St Michael, Highgate United and from December 2021, Racing Club Warwick, who he helped to finish fourth in the Midland League Premier Division last season. Glover said: “Craney is a club legend everyone knows that so when the opportunity came to bring him back I was excited, with Guy having to leave for medical reasons I needed an assistant manager who knew what this club is about, nobody embodies that more than Craney and the fact he is still a top quality goalkeeper just made it an absolute no brainer.” Following Crane from Racing Club Warwick is midfielder Desean Martin. The 25-year-old has played for a number of local non-League clubs, including Market Drayton Town, Tividale and Bedworth United. He had a brief spell with the Pitmen in 2017. Following a successful time with Sutton Coldfield Town he joined Rushall Olympic in 2020. Following his time with the Pics he joined Racing Club Warwick where his appearances in midfield had a number of clubs at Step 4 watching him. The Pitmen have also announced the signing of striker Max Dixon from Midland League Premier Division side Lichfield City. The 21-year-old began his career at Coventry City’s youth academy before moving to join Stafford Rangers youth system progressing through to the first team at Marston Road in 2018. He then moved on to Lichfield for his first spell, Spending time in 2021 with Rushall Olympic before a move to Bedworth United in 2022 briefly, he then returned to Lichfield for the remainder of the 2022/23 season. Also joining the fortunately now safe Pitmen is the experienced Michael Williams, who was most recently with NPL Division One Midlands side Gresley Rovers. The 35-year-old started out with Highgate United with spells at Coleshill Town, Northwood, Willenhall Town, Stratford Town and Rugby Town before making the move to Stafford Rangers in 2014. He spent a year at Marston Road before joining Hinckley United for a spell then Leamington. In the 2015/2016 season he joined Chasetown before a brief five-month spell at Keys Park the following season. He then went on to play for Leek Town, Market Drayton Town, Rushall Olympic, Stone Old Alleynians, as well as second spells at Chasetown and Stafford Rangers before he joined Gresley. A Montserrat international with 17 caps, Williams is a versatile player comfortable at the back or in midfield. Defender Jack Kelly has also signed for the Pitmen for the 2023/24 season. The 26-year-old started out with Nottingham Forest in their academy before moving to Hemel Hempstead Town in 2016. He then moved on and joined Kettering Town before a move to the Cymru Premier with Newtown AFC. Returning to English football, he has also played for Halesowen Town and recently Shifnal Town. He is a left back with lots of energy and someone Glover had been tracking last season. And last season’s loanee Jack Sang has made his move from Leamington a more permanent one. The 19-year-old midfielder started his career in the West Bromwich Albion youth academy. He began his senior career with Leamington, spending time on loan with Alvechurch, Atherstone United and Hednesford.
