The 25-year-old becomes Latics` boss David Unsworth’s second signing of the summer. Willoughby had moved to Chester in July 2022 from former National League North rivals York City. He had signed for the Minstermen in June 2021 from rivals AFC Fylde and helped them to win promotion back to the National League in 2021/22. He had signed for the Coasters in June 2019 following his departure from FC United of Manchester, following a 19-goal-haul, despite relegation. He first made a name for himself playing for AFC Blackpool in the North West Counties League, scoring 40 goals in just half a season at his time there. He was then picked up by Clitheroe, where he continued his prolific form, scoring 26 goals in the league and earning a place in the league team of the season. Despite their relegation, his time at FC United was a productive one, finishing as top goalscorer, winning players’ player of the Year, and earning a first England C cap, marking his debut with a goal in a 2-2 draw against Wales. Manager, David Unsworth told https://www.oldhamathletic.co.uk: "What we've got is an out-and-out goalscorer who scores goals for fun, he scores all types of goals and he gets in the box. "We're obviously going to need to give him that service but any opportunity he gets he's looking to get a shot away straight away, which I love. "And he's different from what we've got. We've got two big target men, we've got Reidy who runs in behind, we've now got a goalscorer - poacher - that we didn't have last season so he makes that department stronger as well".
