The 32-year-old’s move will become valid on July 1st following the expiry of his contract with National League side Southend United. Murphy had originally signed for Yeovil in June 2019 after a prolific 2018/19 campaign which saw him net 28 goals and catapult Chelmsford City to the National League South play-offs whilst also claiming the Clarets’ player, players' and away player of the year awards. The Welshman arrived on a free transfer from Cardiff City in January 2017 and went on to make 96 appearances for the Glovers, scoring 8 times. Starting out at Arsenal, the former England and Republic of Ireland Youth international spent time on loan at Brentford and Preston North End before a prolific time abroad with Telstar in the Dutch Eerste Divisiein in 2012. Returning to England to join Oldham Athletic, he found goalscoring form on loan at Crawley Town with 9 goals in 15 games prior to similarly successful stints with AFC Wimbledon – where he won promotion from League Two – and Forest Green Rovers. Spells at York City, Torquay United and Gillingham followed before linking up with Chelmsford where he averaged a goal every 125 minutes in the league.
