The striker has been turning out for North West Counties League Premier Division side Congleton Town since the summer of 2021 and has been a big hit with the fans.
Pope was one of 15 players released by Port Vale at the end of the 2020/21 League Two season.
Pope’s departure ended a wonderful playing career with his home-town club having scored 115 goals in his two spells, making him the club’s post-war record scorer.
He netted 33 in the 2012/13 League Two promotion season in his first spell then was crucial in keeping Vale in the Football League in his second.
The striker hadn’t been able to feature regularly in 2020/21 because he was making his way back to fitness after breaking his arm and damaging shoulder ligaments in the EFL Trophy defeat at Sunderland.
Typically, he played on with the injuries because all the substitutes had been used and he didn’t want the team having to finish the game with ten-men.
As well as Vale, the 37-year-old has also had spells with Biddulph Victoria, Rotherham United, where he made 53 appearances and scored 4 times, and Bury, for whom he played 73 times and scored 10 goals.
Albion have also signed midfielder Oli Roberts.
The 26-year-old started his career at Stockport County in 2012.
His talent was spotted by Stoke City, and he switched to the Potteries.
In 2016 after signing first-team terms but not making a senior appearance, he joined Tamworth on loan, then Fleetwood Town permanently, making his debut against Carlisle United in the EFL Trophy.
He joined Stalybridge Celtic in August 2017 and was almost ever-present in the 2017/18 season, missing just two matches, before heading to the US with New Orleans Jesters.
He started the 2018/19 season at Mickleover Sports before switching to Buxton and then to Atherton Collieries in December 2018, helping them to win the Northern Premier Division One West title.
He transferred to Trafford in October 2019 and then rivals Colne in July 2021.
He returned to Atherton Colls in June 2022 and then re-joined Colne in 2022/23 and ended the campaign with Wythenshawe Town before joining Witton Albion in July 2023.
