Thompson's career started at Hartpury College and he went on to play for Baltimore Bohemians in the United States before returning to England and playing for Gloucester City.

He subsequently joined Swindon Supermarine in January 2016 after he was released by the National League South side at the end of December 2015.

Bevan moved quickly to bring Thompson back to Cinder Lane after a successful loan spell with the club last season.
