He
left Rovers in February to take over at St Neots but stepped down, announcing
it was due to the pressures the extra travel had put on his young family.
Abbott,
who lives in Haverhill, spent almost 14 years as a player with Rovers, sandwiched
by a spell with Saffron Walden Town, and took over as player-manager two years
ago.
A
statement from the club reads: “The football club are delighted with Marc’s
appointment, as not only will it provide a local feel about the club again but
we have full confidence in Marc’s professionalism and principles on and off the
pitch to be successful in the position.
“Marc
has fantastic knowledge of our entire club which, let`s not forget, has one of
the brightest youth set ups in the county and we look forward to supporting
Marc in driving the football club to fulfil its potential in the coming months
and years.
“It
promises to be a really exciting time ahead for players, supporters and
everyone involved with the football club.”
Abbott
also confirmed that James Bloomfield, who has spent the last two months in the
Haverhill hot-seat before stepping down on Wednesday night, will not be part of
his management team.
