Thornaby
parted company with Steve Bell last week after a poor run of form.
The
club`s thanked Bell for his considerable efforts during the transition from Second
to First Division football and his dedication helped to bring the club to where
they are today.
But
they believe this is the right decision and in the best interest of Thornaby
Football Club.
Haley
has been appointed in interim charge until the end of the season, allowing the
club to evaluate going forward.
Haley`s
playing days included a spell at Bolton Wanderers at youth level and he
finished his career playing for several clubs within the Northern League, including
Billingham Synthonia.
His
coaching posts have been with the Synners, Guisborough Town and Billingham Town,
where he was first team coach.
Haley (pictured) said: “After giving the opportunity serious thought with my family I have
decided I could not turn away this opportunity. I am happy that I can help the
club at this time and see this as a fantastic opportunity with what I believe
is a very good young squad. After a difficult 24 hours for the club I look
forward to meeting the players and getting started tomorrow night, news on
backroom staff will follow.”
Haley
has wasted no time in making changes, with last season`s Northern League young
player of the year, Kurtis Howes, agreeing to return to the club.
The
19-year-old winger was instrumental in Thornaby’s promotion run last season but
left to join Billingham Town in the summer.
Also
returning from Billingham is Jamie Poole as player-coach.
Poole
captained Thornaby to promotion last season.
A
combative central defender who can also play in midfield, his other former
clubs include Blyth Spartans, Whitby Town, Guisborough Town and Stockton Town.
Joe
Carter joins from North Riding League neighbours Thornaby Dubliners.
He
played in the Northern League last season for Stockton.
Meanwhile,
Joe Posthill has left the club to play for league rivals Shildon. |
