Donnelly takes over from Luke Gregson, who stepped down earlier this month citing family and work commitments.

Donnelly retired from playing in July 2020 having re-joined Hitchin Town from Southern League Premier Division Central rivals Biggleswade Town in May 2019 as player-coach.

He had been player/assistant-manager with the Waders.

The striker previously made 198 appearances for the Canaries and scored 52 goals – one of only 40 players in the history of the club to surpass the 50-goal landmark – and was an integral member of the 2015/16 and 2016/17 squads that reached the Southern Premier Division play-offs.

He has scored goals wherever he has played, which has included spells with Barton Rovers, Codicote and a previous stint with Biggleswade.
